Canova was born from a simple frustration. Jiani and I were tired of waking up at 4:00 a.m., standing in endless lineups, hoping to get our hands on a single English booster box. We knew there had to be a better way.

Jiani, my life partner and business partner, was born and raised in Shanghai, China. Her family and lifelong friends are spread throughout mainland China, giving us something incredibly valuable—not just connections, but relationships built on trust.

Our supplier isn’t someone we found online. They’re a trusted family friend and an authorized Pokémon China dealer. Through that relationship, along with our network of family and friends across China, we stay connected to the heartbeat of the Chinese Pokémon market.

Every day, we’re checking market prices. Every day, friends visit official Pokémon retailers throughout mainland China to verify MSRP pricing, product availability, and market conditions.

Unfortunately, there is a side of the Chinese Pokémon market that many collectors never see. Thanks to sophisticated packaging facilities, a significant amount of product sold internationally consists of “loose boxes,” repacks, or resealed booster boxes.

Here’s how it works;

A booster box is opened. Once a major chase card is pulled, that card is removed. A lower-value “minimum hit” is often substituted, the box is professionally resealed, and it’s sold to collectors overseas who have no idea it’s been tampered with.

Can you still pull a good card from one of these boxes? Absolutely! In the rare instance a box originally contained multiple high-end chase cards, one may remain. Pulling a chase card does not prove the box was authentic—it simply means the box originally had more than one premium hit. The overall hit potential has already been reduced.
